Made in Italy

“Made in Italy” Photo by: Gerald Weisl @Weimax

This photo came to my from my friend Gerald of Burlingame’s Weimax Wine & Spirits.  He snapped a pic of this tattoo on a trip to Piemonte at Osteria Il Cunicolo.  I love the ever-enduring pride of the Italian people.

What is the connection between chefs and tattoos?  Knives, animal parts, vegetables and fruit.  So much passion for these beautiful raw ingredients so many of them would brand themselves forever.  I am reminded of a project a friend of mine has curated… Birk O’Halloran of Iconic Wine and his partner Daniel Luke Holton recently released a photography book of “food, chefs, and their awesome tattoos”.  I ordered mine on Amazon yesterday!

Given Gerald’s photo, I think an Italian edition is called for.  Or maybe a book of sommeliers and their tattoos?  Somm Ink? Drink Ink?  Eagerly awaiting the next installment, guys!  Bravo, Birk and Daniel.  And thanks, Gerald, for the memory!
