Squaw Valley: Italian Wine Abounds

While visiting the Lake Tahoe area last week I discovered that Italian Wine Geeks truly live everywhere- you just can’t escape them!  This was especially true during a delicious luncheon at Plumpjack’s Squaw Valley Inn.  My colleague had arranged for a few of the key wine buyers in the area to join us for lunch and a tasting of some lovely Italian wines- fantastico!

The setting was perfect- I wish all of our customers had an opportunity to taste the Banville & Jones wine portfolio under the same circumstances.  Crystal clear skies, lovely food and a table by the pool- yes, we were working!  Plumpjack Cafe’s cuisine was truly delicious- a commitment to local ingredients and fresh, seasonal dishes makes it easy to pair any number of wines with the food on this menu.

No time for a dip- too many wines to talk about!

Lively conversation between Jim of Cork and More and Mike from Plumpjack.  Could they be discussing the merits of Paolo Scavino’s Dolcetto?

Green salad with pine nuts paired especially well with a Pala Vermentino from Sardegna.

Seabass with polenta and tomatoes married perfectly to a sparkler from Ca’ del Bosco.

Jim & Kim Warlow of Cork and More loved Terlano’s “Lunare” Gewurztraimner– just look at those smiles!

These people love Italian wines- and they really know their stuff!  The next time you’re in the area you can bet you’ll find a few interesting Italian wines… and a lot of enthusiastic wine people.
