Tolaini Table, Gambero Rosso San Francisco 2012Every year Italian (and non Italian) wine geeks gather in San Francisco for the annual west coast roadshow of the Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieri wines.  Producers travel from Italy, importers and salespeople return predictably like the swallows of Capistrano, and sweet, beautiful madness ensues.  This has got to be my favorite trade show of the year.

I recently heard a story about why it is that the Gambero Rosso decided to call their highest award for wine “Tre Bicchieri” or “Three Glasses”.  The story goes that the creator of the award and his wife were enthusiastically enjoying a particularly beautiful bottle of wine.  As they finished the bottle they realized it amounted to three perfect glasses for each of them.

I don’t know if the story is true, but it sounds just about right to me.

Cin cin!
